We Lead With People: Why Community Education Is at the Heart of How We Show Up

JP Johnson, Founder & President

Most people don’t need another sales pitch about money.

They need someone to sit down, ask better questions, and explain how any of it actually works.

That’s the gap we built our firm to close — and it’s the reason community education isn’t a marketing program at Paramount Wealth Group. It’s how we lead.

People First. Always.

There’s a version of financial services that starts with a product and works backward to find someone to sell it to. We’ve never been interested in that version.

We start with people. Their lives, their questions, their actual situations — not a template, not a model portfolio, not whatever happens to be in season at the home office. The plan comes after the conversation. Never before it.

That orientation changes everything downstream. It changes who we hire. It changes how our advisors spend their time. It changes the kinds of partnerships we build in our community. And it changes what a first meeting feels like — because the goal of that meeting isn’t to close anything. It’s to listen.

“I’ve watched too many good people make avoidable mistakes with money they worked a lifetime to earn — not because they weren’t smart, but because no one ever sat down and explained how any of it actually works. That’s the gap we show up to close.”

JP Johnson, Founder & President, Paramount Wealth Group

Why We Show Up in the Community

Financial confusion is everywhere. It cuts across income brackets, professions, neighborhoods, and generations. The 28-year-old trying to make sense of a 401(k) for the first time. The 55-year-old executive sitting on equity she doesn’t fully understand. The widow who was never told where the accounts were. The small business owner who’s about to sell the company he’s built for thirty years and has no idea what comes next. The corporate team whose employer is paying for benefits half of them aren’t using.

None of these people need a sales presentation. They need clarity. And clarity doesn’t come from a brochure — it comes from a real conversation, in a setting where it’s safe to ask the question you’ve been embarrassed to ask anyone else.

That’s what community education makes possible. We can reach people in the rooms they’re already in — private businesses, large corporations, churches, nonprofits, professional associations, civic organizations, faith communities, executive teams, and neighborhood groups — and have the kind of conversation that doesn’t happen anywhere else in their financial lives.

No pitch. No product. Just real education, from real people, in a room where the questions get answered honestly.

What a Partnership With Us Looks Like

Community partnerships aren’t one-size-fits-all. We’ve led intimate fireside conversations with twelve people in a church basement. We’ve led full-room workshops for hundreds at corporate town halls and nonprofit galas. We’ve sat with executive teams, business owner roundtables, widows’ groups, women’s leadership circles, and faith-based ministries. The format changes. The principle doesn’t.

Here’s how we typically partner:

Workplace Financial Education for Private Businesses

From family-owned businesses to mid-sized companies, we partner with employers to bring real financial education to their teams — at no cost to the business or the employees. Lunch-and-learns, breakfast sessions, benefits-enrollment education, retirement readiness workshops. We come to your location, we bring the materials and the meal, and your only job is to open the door.

Corporate Programs for Larger Organizations

For larger corporations, we build structured programs that scale across departments, locations, and employee populations. That can include company-wide lunch & learns, targeted sessions for specific groups (new hires, executives, employees nearing retirement), private chef’s dinners for leadership and their spouses, and ongoing one-on-one access for every employee. The complexity sits on our side. The benefit sits with your people.

Educational Workshops & Lunch-and-Learns

For any group — professional, civic, or otherwise — we come to you. We bring the materials, the meal if needed, and an advisor who can lead an interactive session on the topic your audience most needs. No slides full of jargon. Just plain talk, real examples, and time for questions.

Faith-Based & Nonprofit Partnerships

Some of the most meaningful work we do happens with churches and nonprofits. Stewardship, generational wealth, planning for a meaningful legacy, navigating a loss in the family — these conversations belong in communities that already trust each other. We’re honored when we’re invited in.

Roundtables for Specific Groups

Sometimes the most powerful sessions happen in narrow rooms: business owners thinking about succession, corporate executives navigating equity and compensation, widows learning to manage assets on their own, families in the middle of a transition. When the people in the room share a situation, the questions get sharper and the answers go deeper.

Private One-on-One Conversations

After every community event, we offer anyone in the room a free 20-minute private conversation. One person, one advisor, no pitch. The goal isn’t to sell anything. It’s to help someone walk out with clarity on the question that’s been weighing on them — even if we never see them again.

The Topics People Actually Want to Talk About

We’ve had thousands of these conversations. Certain themes come up over and over again, no matter the audience. Any of these can become the spine of a session for your community:

The World Changed. Does Your Plan Know That?

Interest rates, tax law, market volatility — the rules shifted. Most plans were written for a world that no longer exists.

Too Much of the Wrong Thing

Concentrated stock, growth portfolios when you need income, savings in the wrong accounts. Wealth isn’t just about how much you have — it’s about whether it’s positioned to work.

What Does “Enough” Actually Look Like?

Most people can’t answer with a real number. We help them build the income stream that does — reliably, tax-efficiently, on their terms.

The IRS Is Getting Paid. How Much and When?

The people who keep the most aren’t the ones who earn the most — they’re the ones with a year-round strategy.

The Plan Nobody Has Until It’s Too Late

Healthcare costs, outdated wills, a beneficiary form with the wrong name. The gaps that undo everything don’t announce themselves.

Zero Lift on Your End

If you lead a private business, a corporate team, a community, a congregation, a nonprofit, or any group of people who could benefit from a real conversation about money, the lift is on us:

  • We come to your location.

  • We bring all the materials.

  • We handle setup and tear-down.

  • No prep work, no logistics, no follow-up tasks landing on your team.

Your only job is to open the door.

And just as important — there’s no sales pitch in the room. Knowledge and clarity are the product. We’re there to serve your community first. If anyone in the room wants to talk further, the door is open. If not, we still consider the session a success — because someone learned something they didn’t know before.

Why This Matters to Us

There’s a phrase we use a lot around here:

Honor your testimony.

It means something specific. Everyone we meet has built something — a career, a family, a faith, a body of work, a story. The money is just one part of that story. Our job is to honor it. To make sure the plan around it is worthy of the life that produced it.

We can’t do that work without first showing up. Without being in the rooms. Without being known by the people we hope to serve. Community education is how we earn the right to be trusted with the harder conversations later.

It’s also how we live out a conviction we hold deeply: families deserve better than fragmented advice. And the only way to change that is to keep showing up — in real rooms, with real people, having real conversations.

Invite Us In

If you lead a company, an executive team, a community, a congregation, a nonprofit, or any organization where the people you care about could benefit from honest financial education, we’d be glad to talk.

No commitment. No proposal deck. Just a short conversation about your community, your goals, and what kind of session would land best with your people.
